8/2/16 - Dottie Burns Restarts CAM Table Top Ministry
Dottie Burns has been faithful as a Supervisor of CAM, Inc. on Thursdays for years. There are many Clients that especially come in on Thursday to talk with Dottie.
Age has not slowed her down.Dottie, member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, still organizes St. Pat’s and St. Joan of Arc’s women to bake cakes for every CAM Client’s birthdays. This is over 1,000 cakes every year !
Dottie still organizes the Churches women to bake cookies for the Run for Shelter this August 20th and any reception CAM has.
Dottie still helps organize all the food for the CAM Christmas Party that hosts about 300 Clients each year at Grace United Methodist Church.
Dottie is an amazing Air Force Veteran who served after the Korean War in Hawaii.
Steady in her ministries at her Church and even serving in the community in other ministries, Dottie is ready to move from CAM Thursday Supervisor to restarting CAM Table Top Ministry.
CAM Table Top Ministry began in 1995 when Rev. Ruth’s mother, Elsie Caldwell, came to work each day at CAM, Inc.A pastor’s wife, who had been active in ministry all of her live, sat in the CAM kitchen with her Bible and notebook, ready to talk with everyone and anyone that needed a special ear to listen.Mom would pray with anyone that asked for prayer.
This ministry continued for a few years with Volunteers and Chaplains from Community Howard stopping by, to becoming Men’s groups led by ministers in our area.
Now is the time and Dottie is the person.CAM needs the presence of caring people to come and sit in our kitchen – greet people, chat, offer the food we have donated, have a cup of coffee that is donated, “be available” to listen. The present Workers and Volunteers answering the phones, the CAM Supervisor, CAM Payee Bookkeeper, Case Worker, and Supplies Coordinator’s time is spent helping the 35 people that walk through our doors each day. There is not time to just “sit and talk.”When people are homeless, near homeless, or just making it from paycheck to paycheck, having a caring person like Dottie to “listen” can make all the difference in the world.
If you wish to sign-up for this Table Top Ministry - two hour or half day shifts – call Dottie Burns. She will be at CAM on Thursdays or you can call CAM, 765.452.8963, and leave a message for Dottie to call you back.
Sincerely, Rev. Ruth Lawson, CAM, Inc. 765-434-0687
